CETE_SOTTTER-23-THE RIGHT TEACHER FOR EVERY CHILD_2023
The State of Teachers Teaching and Teacher Education is a Biennial State of the Sector Report produced by CETE. This report aims to address the question of the demand and supply of teachers, and teacher availability in schools. Through estimating and projecting teacher needs across different subjects, levels and school types and identifying the availability, this study attempts to analyse the issue of teacher shortage and provide suggestions for teacher recruitment and deployment to fill this gap. It seeks to address the following questions: 1. What is the supply of professionally qualified teachers? 2. What and where is the demand for qualified teachers? 3. How do the supply and demand vary on various factors such as the size of the state, region (rural/urban), subjects (all school subjects including arts, physical education, special education, computer science), levels (early years, primary and secondary), school management and gender? 4. How are RTE norms being fulfilled concerning teacher recruitment? 5. What is the quality of teachers entering the profession? Along with the main report there are 8 background papers which extensively dwelve into these themes."
